We came
Some of us laughing blindly
With so many false giggles the tears would not come
Until they stung streaks down rouged cheeks
Pink pearls landing on our toes
Others bent and bowing; apologizing for air
Some standing so tall; noses reaching for nothing
Some defiant about a void untouched
Some wide-eyed with gut-less fear
One filled with grace
Two filled with doubt
And a Teacher

So much sound galloping to circle
The waterless well
With one good eye
Refusing to blink

We were close enough huddling there
No more flapping, scratching or screeching
Where there was too much sound to hear,

only one voice, one cry distantly called

Its quiet song clear and within
The clamoring deadening no more
Clarity rose and the breath filled

Ten dead Gurus perched there
Each with the face of a father—
Ten Live Bodies laid there
From the belly of Shakti
We crossed our arms
Reaching
For the quiet

I STRIVE EVERY DAY TO UPLIFT, TEACH AND REMIND PEOPLE OF THEIR INNER LIGHT AND TRUTH. AS A UNITY PRAYER CHAPLAIN, I HAVE A PASSION FOR LIFE, CHANTING AND BEING IMMERSED IN NATURE. I HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 37 YEARS, WITH THREE BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN AND FOUR GRANDCHILDREN.

I HAVE COMPLETED 200 HOURS OF HATHA YOGA TEACHER TRAINING AND I AM CERTIFIED IN THE AMRIT METHOD OF YOGA NIDRA. I COMPLETED KUNDALINI LEVEL ONE TEACHER TRAINING IN 2016.

Nam Pritam is the Director of Spirituality at Sat Nam Studios. She leads Aquarian Sadhana on the first sunday of the month at 5:00 am and TEACHES the first Monday of the month at 7:00 PM.

  Katie Carp   I have been practicing Hatha Vinyasa yoga for seven years. In 2011, I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. That same year, I walked into my first yoga class. In that one hour and fifteen minute class, I found a place where I could stop fighting.  My yoga mat became a place where it was ok to forget life’s struggles and just be. BAMS is a professional degree in medicine focused on Ayurveda offered in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and other South Asian countries. It requires five and a half years of study, including a one-year internship. Allison Daniel (Avtar Teja Kaur)

MY DEDICATION TO YOGA HAS CREATED HEALING IN MY LIFE. YOGA IS A CONSTANT REMINDER THAT THE ANSWERS I AM SEARCHING FOR CAN BE FOUND WITHIN. I WILL ALWAYS BE A STUDENT OF YOGA, WHERE LEARNING IS CONTINUOUS.

I ENJOY TEACHING HEARTFELT AND MOVING CLASSES THAT INCLUDE CHANTING MANTRAS OF THE DIVINE. I COMPLETED 200-HOUR HATHA YOGA TEACHER TRAINING IN 2015. FROM THERE, MY SPIRITUAL JOURNEY LED ME TO KUNDALINI YOGA. I COMPLETED KUNDALINI LEVEL ONE TEACHER TRAINING IN 2016.

Avtar Teja is the Director of Art and Content at Sat Nam Studios. She teaches Tuesdays at 6:30 pm.

  Beth Gatchell   Yoga makes me my best self. The physical practice, the chanting, the breathing, the being, the stillness.  I have practiced yoga for 23 years and taught hatha yoga for 14 years.  Mantra and mantra practice in community have spoken to me since chanting regularly with a dear friend in 2005. He knew more than I did about the practice, so I learned from him and we deepened our practices together. I brought my guitar and hand percussion. He brought the harmonium. We chanted; we ate together and repeated weekly for years. The community and the mantra polished me on the inside.  After his premature departure to the great beyond I had the opportunity to sing harmony with a kirtan musician at a festival. Then the momentum began to roll. I sang with many well-known kirtan musicians on national stages and formed a local kirtan band.  Life took its course and challenged me with a chronic illness. Yoga has been there to catch me in all its forms.  I stumbled into kundalini yoga and have enjoyed the mantras and meditations tremendously. I'm about to complete a 180-day sadhana of Ek Ong Kar. It works!!   Beth joins Nam Pritam Kaur on the first Monday of each month and offers live music for the meditations.

I have taken in more than 75 workshops, trainings and certifications, and played with many of the yoga world’s top chanters and musicians. Looking at the plants that were already inhabiting my landscape, I thought, 'why remove something that is willing to grow here, to make room for something that didn't intentionally want to, like a tomato?' It soon became my obsession to learn about and utilize (if possible) all of the plants that inhabited my homestead.  I work in the natural health field, focusing on natural medicine, herbalism and nutrition. I spend my free time in my garden, kitchen, home apothecary or foraging in my neighborhood. I have a passion for local, seasonal and sustainable food and medicine as well as fermenting anything possible.  I am currently studying under Susun Weed and Leslie Williams. In 2015, I completed the Community Herbal Intensive under the instruction of Leah Wolfe at the Trillium Center. I have a B.S. in Biology from Baldwin-Wallace, where I studied spiders (my first love). It has been the best decision of my life – physically, spiritually and mentally. I knew I had to share the gift of yoga with others.  I have practiced yoga for 20 years. I became a certified and registered yoga teacher in 2013. I am also certified in Chair Yoga and Children’s Yoga. I am also a Shamanic Reiki Master. In 2018 I became EYT-YACEP (Experienced Yoga Teacher, Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider) after teaching more than 1,000 hours of yoga. Having a diverse appreciation for all yoga is important to me so I can offer modifications to meet the individual needs of my students.  I am passionate about helping our community find optimal health and well being. When we come from a place of love, we are better equipped to find our best and brightest version. Because life can be hectic, we forget to be human BE-ings (just being present).  I aim to instill mindfulness by connecting breath to movement, creating a loving and safe space with beautiful music while encouraging self-awareness and the freedom to modify and embellish one’s practice as needed.
